Here’s a few images I shot at about 1:00 in the afternoon.

This time of day is not the best for photography with very hard contrasty light but it’s usually the time of day when most of us tourists are snapping photos. I have a couple of techniques to help mitigate hard light issue.

First, shoot in raw this will increase your dynamic range and give you the ability to pull some detail out of the shadows or highlights depending on how you meter your shots.

Second, I think the main thing to remember is that it’s high noon and the shot should look contrasty. So don’t sweat it get as much detail as you can but adjust your tone curve so the shot looks appropriate for the time of day.

Lastly you can try HDR but in my opinion you really have to tone it down and not make look to HDRish if you know what I mean.

The first image is a HDR conversion the rest are regular exposures with my normal processing.
